para-kin WHO IS THIS WEB SITE FOR?

Men and women who are in serious, committed relationships with a domestic partner, spousal equivalent, significant other, or same-sex union, where the “traditional marriage” between the couple is not their option.  These loving relationships may or may not include children from a previous union. To be called one’s “Para-wife” or “Para-hubby” is a loving alternative to the more traditional designations of the relationship. Within the confines of a traditional marriage, the terms “Para-son” or “Para-daughter” may provide an alternative to the much maligned “step-son” or “step-daughter”.

CAN IT BE DONE?  CAN LANGUAGE AND WORDS REALLY EVOLVE TO REFLECT TODAY’S BLENDED FAMILY?

Absolutely! In precisely the same way that the designation of “Ms.” filled a void in our language and culture in the 1960’s, there is a need- no, a demand- that we provide positive alternatives to describe the close relationships that  form between couples themselves and within blended families.  Introducing my Para-son’s long time partner as his friend, after 18 years together, is not only absurd, it is insulting. This is a loving and dedicated couple who are, without a doubt, Para-husbands to each other.  Let’s use the words..Let’s tell the world..It’s time for English to enter the 21st century.
